Mentors in Tech is founded to connect overlooked tech students with industry, mentors, opportunities, and guiding them in navigating the tech landscape and path find their career.
When you join the MinT community as either a student or a mentor, we collect information about you and your participation as a function of the program. Depending on MinT’s events and programs, your participation may be recorded in a form of photographs, video recordings or audio recordings. This Privacy Policy describes how we will use that your information and the recordings involving you.
What we collect as a part of our program:
For student mentees:
- Information you or your school give us, especially on the student information form, such as a name, email, address, and other background information. We use this as a part of our matching process and to better support you on your journey in tech.
- Public information. For example, we collect information from your LinkedIn profile or GitHub projects where applicable.
- Your submitted reflections and surveys as a participant in the program.
- Your statements, image (including digital image), actions or voice provided or recorded in photographs, audio or video at MinT’s events, workshops, or programs.
For industry mentors:
- Information you give us, especially on the mentor application form, such as a name, email, address, or other background information. We use this as a part of our matching process and to better support you as a mentor.
- Public information. For example, we collect information from your LinkedIn profile.
- Your submitted reflections, surveys, and other materials as a participant in the program.
- Your statements, image (including digital image), actions or voice provided or recorded in photographs, audio or video at MinT’s events, workshops, or programs.
How we use your information:
- To provide program services. We use the information and recordings we collect to improve the program, to develop new ones, and to carry out MinT’s mission (including, but not limited to, training, academic use, communications, websites, social media, marketing materials … etc.)
- As a part of the processing of data or day to day operations of the MinT program. For example, we use third party services and products to process your forms, surveys, schedule meetings, conduct training, forums, and other activities related to the program.
- For safety. We use the information we collect to protect ourselves and our program participants. For example, a list of people who are no longer allowed to participate for security reasons or violation of our Code of Conduct.
- To keep you updated. We use information we collect to provide program updates and to let you know about MinT’s related opportunities.
When we need to share your information:
- Measure and market program. We share aggregated, anonymized, and non-personally identifying information with our schools and program partners to demonstrate the purpose and effectiveness of the MinT program. We will also use program data and non-PII student information in research studies, grants, outreach, social media, and marketing campaigns.
- If you are a student and you are selected by your school or organization to be a part of MinT, they may request your reflections and data for credit in certain classes. In this case, we submit the reflection and data on your behalf to the school or organization that enrolled you in the program.
- If you are a student, we may share your information with potential employers or other organizations with opportunities that MinT partners with.
- To support MinT’s mission, you agree to allow MinT to use your information as well as any recordings of you at any MinT’s event, workshop, or program for MinT’s purposes/mission stated above. You acknowledge that you have no ownership rights in any photographs or recordings of you created by or on behalf of MinT for MinT’s purposes/mission stated above.
For Residents of California
If you are a California resident, California law provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information, including: - the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about its collection and use over the past 12 months,
- the right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
- the right to opt-out of having your personal information sold
- You have the right not to be discriminated against if you exercise any of your rights under California privacy law.
For purposes of California law, personal information means information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a consumer or household.
